This work emerged intuitively through experimentation with texture, colour and silkscreen. At the time, I was deeply interested in Doggerland and the idea of the lost landscape beneath the North Sea. The grey, subdued atmosphere also evokes the Dutch coast on a wet winter day — a landscape that invites quiet contemplation.

I first covered the surface with delicate tissue paper, allowing its folds and creases to become part of the painting. Almost hidden within the layers are silkscreened fragments of text about Doggerland, only revealing themselves when the light falls across the surface at a certain angle.

‘Traces of Thought 01’ became a meditation on what lies beneath the sea: a landscape that once existed, disappeared, and now survives only through traces, imagination and memory.
