‘Traces of Thought 03’ began with the familiar language of the Dutch landscape, but became an investigation into how far a landscape can be transformed before it loses its identity.

I worked through successive layers of paint and colour, allowing parts of the image to emerge while other elements became increasingly indistinct. I was interested in creating depth and atmosphere without relying on precise representation.

The painting therefore sits between two ways of looking: recognising a landscape and simply experiencing colour, light and space. For me, the remaining fragments are like traces of thoughts — incomplete, shifting and open to interpretation.
