‘Traces of Thought 5’ grew from an exploration of landscape, perception and abstraction. I wanted to create an image that does not have a single fixed orientation, allowing the painting to be turned and experienced from different directions.
The landscape remains present, but its forms are deliberately ambiguous. Through layers of paint, colour and subtle traces, I explored how an image can move between recognition and abstraction, and how changing our point of view can alter what we think we see.
The work reflects on the way landscape is never entirely fixed, but is shaped by perception, memory and the moment in which we encounter it.
